An Amateur’s View of Zen.  Some highlights of the Buddhist background, American Zen, and the speakers own experience of meditation practice.

Neil Meyers is a retired Professor of English from Purdue University (in West Lafayette, Indiana), now living in Santa Rosa. He's been a student of Soto Zen Buddhism for over 35 years, both in the Midwest and here in northern California. His talk touch on the Buddhist background of zen and its development in China, Japan and lately Europe and the US, but concentrated primarily on his own experience of  “zazen” - zen meditation -- both as a daily practice and in formal retreats at a nearby center.
